The material starts by looking at weaknesses that have plagued networked systems for years and then delves into countermeasures like firewalls and intrusion detection systems, and investigate how security protocols such as SSL/TLS, SSH and IPsec work in detail and what makes them secure.
The course also includes a complete and easy to follow crash course on encryption, how encryption can be bypassed and what you can do to mitigate the risks. Next, we take a detailed look at network monitoring with tools such as Wireshark, Tcpdump, and Syslog. The course covers concepts that help in understanding how to best use methods of authentication including passwords, multi-factor authentication including soft tokens and hard tokens. The course also discusses about the best password managers to use, how passwords are cracked, and how to mitigate such password attacks
